Keeping Philadelphia looking great since the late 1800’s
The Sulimay family has been keeping Philadelphia looking great since the late 1800’s when Antonio Sulimay and his wife Elizabetta came over from Italy.
He became a Barber in Philadelphia. Then their son Anthony Sulimay opened Tony’s Barbershop in Swampoodle at 29th & Lehigh in the early 1900’s. Anthony Sulimay and his wife Catherine had 18 children. Many of them became Hair stylists and Barbers. Then, in 1963, their son Jim Sulimay opened Jimmy Sulimay’s Barbershop at 24th & Brown, in Fairmount. Jimmy and his wife Carol had four children of their own children; only one of which became involved in the Industry as a career. During the year of 1996, their daughter Tara joined her father, and together they converted his one chair Barbershop into a space for both men and women. In 2015, Tara opened Sulimay’s Studio on Main, located on Main Street in Manayunk. In 2019, Tara opened Sulimay’s Salon & Barbering Studio located around 24th & Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia’s Art Museum Area.
Now joined by her Daughter Cianna, along with an amazing and talented team they are going strong! Five generations later Sulimay’s has become a respected Philadelphia household name as leaders in the industry.
