Winter Hair Survival Guide part 1

From the Team at SULIMAY’S – ❄️

Philadelphia winters are no joke. Between the icy winds whipping down Broad Street, dry indoor heat blasting in your home, and constant hat weather, your hair goes through it.

At SULIMAY’S, we’ve been caring for Philly families for over 60 years. We’ve seen our clients through weddings, first jobs, babies, life transitions—and yes, many, many winters. So today, we’re sharing our expert winter hair pointers for both our male and female clients to keep your hair healthy, strong, and styled all season long.

•Hydration is everything!

Cold air outside + dry heat inside = moisture stripped from your hair and scalp.

For Women:

Add a deep conditioning treatment to your routine every 2–3 weeks. If your hair feels brittle, staticky, or dull, that’s your cue. A professional gloss or conditioning service at the salon can completely revive winter hair.

For Men:

Dry scalp is real in the winter. If you’re noticing flakes or itchiness, it may not be dandruff—it may be dryness. A moisturizing shampoo and a scalp treatment during your haircut can make a huge difference.

✨ Pro Tip: Turn down the water temperature when washing. Super-hot showers feel amazing, but they dry out your scalp and hair.

•Adjust your cut for the season!

Winter is the perfect time to refine your shape.

For Women:

Adding subtle layers can bring movement back to hair that feels flat from hats and scarves. A precision bob or reshaped mid-length cut can make styling quicker and healthier.

For Men:

Keeping the sides and back clean with a fresh fade while leaving length on top gives you versatility—even when you’re constantly wearing beanies. Clean lines matter even more in winter because growth feels heavier under hats.

Our team specializes in seamless fades, precision cutting, and customized texture for both men and women. Winter is not the time to let your haircut “ride it out.”
