So I hit the mall today. The King of Prussia Mall, for those that are local to Philly you know what this means. For those of you not from Philly it means pure insanity. It all started because I had to return a coat that I got for my husband for Christmas. It definitely took a positive spin when somehow I made money on this deal. I returned a coat, for a nicer coat and got $20 back. Hey I will take it! The sales were so amazing all over the mall, but particularly at Macy’s. I stayed pretty focused on my mission so I didn’t stray too much. This is not so easy for some people though.
Staying focused when shopping is not always a simple task. It is very easy to impulse purchase, especially when there are good sales. If you are on a budget this is a skill that you need to practice. Literally it is a mind over matter strength technique. It can mean saving yourself a lot of headaches and more importantly a lot of interest and payments. So if this is something that you need to avoid, then you need to get in and get out! Some suggestions, leave your credit cards at home. Bring cash or gift cards so that you can’t over spend. Bring your kids because most likely they will not have a lot of shopping patience, but if you do then definitely leave your credit cards at home because you could potentially multiply the financial damages.
I had my boys with me, my two biological sons and one of their friends who is kind of like my other son. I have to admit that I have never braved the mall the week after Christmas, so taking a 4 year old and two 16 year old boys was questionable on my part. But as true confessions go I have a secret, I hate to shop. It’s a blessing and a curse. I am an in and out girl. Get in, complete your mission and get outta there as fast as humanly possible. KOP is not a good place to go with this mindset. They just built a beautiful addition to an already huge and stunning mall. So for those of you that are shoppers you really should go check it out. They have a huge touch screen computerized map of the mall. I mean I must say it is extremely user friendly and helpful.
Naturally the big boys ditched me after lunch. This was perfectly fine with me. They went on their mission and I went on mine, with my little guy of course. The boys made out good in their shopping experience. They had their own spending money and gift cards. They both were successful in getting their new kicks at Footlocker. One got a pair of White Huarache’s and one got a pair of Oreo KD’s. They both are pretty sweet looking. Some times they come out with some crazy looking sneakers, but they like them. I actually got a great necklace / bracelet combo from Swarovski for my annual girlfriends “My Favorite Things Party” that I host at my house. I will have to fill you in on this later. But the gift was inspired by one of my girls at work. She got an early Christmas gift last week and it was noticeably stunning. It happened to be on sale today, and it fell with in the “My Favorite Things Budget”.
So if you have a positive shopping mindset and want to spend that Christmas cash or those gift cards, the sales just may be worth the aggravation. And truth be told, I saw a lot of extremely happy people today!
