I ended up getting sick this weekend. Like what! It’s the week before Christmas! The busiest time of year at the salons! And I was in bed for two days!! I don’t have time to get sick! Does anyone have time to get sick this time of year? NOOOOO! I mean imagine Santa getting sick the week before Christmas. Ok, he definitely out ranks me, but you get the point. So I lost two days that I desperately needed as far as time goes. This brings me to our topic of time management during the holidays.
Between holiday shopping, wrapping, working, baking, school shows, figuring out child care for the kids days off, writing out christmas cards (which I personally gave up on) and holiday parties, and any end-of-year deadlines, time is precious right now. I ended up on the phone and internet today regarding helath insurance. We got a letter that our health insurance was going up, wait for it… $600.00 per month! WTH? Are these people kidding me? Before I start ranting on that topic let me get back to the point. I didn’t have time for that!
Here are a couple of suggestions on time preparation of things that you can control, (unlike this BS Health Insurance Increase, in which I had to completely switch my families plan). If you are due to have a Haircut or Color, plan it on a day that you have a scheduled holiday party. Fresh Cut. Color, Updo or Blowout and BAM you are ready to go! If your timing does not line up like that, plan a Blowout and maybe even Makeup for the days of your parties.
If you are hosting a party, it requires a lot of preparation. After you are done all of your running around, cooking and cleaning it’s time for you to get ready. So make sure you schedule in advance your hair and makeup services. Two hours before your guests are due to arrive is a good time frame to have your appointment. Of course this depends on your proximity to the salon. I remember a few times when I was getting out of the shower and guests were arriving because I didn’t give myself enough time to get ready, so not fun when that happens.
If you do have several parties to attend to this would be a great time to inquire if your salon has a Blowout Package. Sulimay’s Hair Design and Sulimay’s Studio on Main offer a couple of Blowout packages. The more Blowout’s that you purchase the less the cost of each Blowout. It is totally worth it, both time and cost wise.
If you get one thing out of this, let it be the importance of time management. It truly is a life skill.
